Eyelid Rejuvenation

Eyelid surgery is used to correct sagging eyelids, and remove excess skin.

Eyelid Rejuvenation, Eyelid Enhancement and Upper Eyelid Surgery

Medical Director Doctor Frank J. Scaccia performs eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, is a minimally invasive procedure performed on patients with drooping eyes or fat bags under their eyes that give them a tired, aged look. Eyelid surgery is used to correct sagging eyelids, get rid of unattractive fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids.

Patients that undergo eyelid surgery look rejuvenated and have a softer, more youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty can be performed alone or done in conjunction with face lift, brow lift, or skin resurfacing procedures.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty typically lasts between one and two hours. During an eyelid lift, the surgeon makes thin incisions above each eye. A thin crescent of excess skin and muscle is removed from the upper eyelid and the incision is closed with very fine sutures. Another incision is made just inside the lower eyelid and fatty deposits are removed. Lower eyelid incisions may be closed with absorbable sutures or left to heal naturally. If excess skin and muscle needs to be removed from the lower eyelids, Doctor Scaccia will make incisions in the natural smile crease below the lash line.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

After an eyelid lift, the area around the eyes will be bruised and swollen for about two weeks. Patients should keep their heads elevated and periodically apply cold compresses to the surgical area. Antibiotic eye drops or ointment may be prescribed to ease discomfort and minimize the chance of complications.

Because the eyelids may be tender, patients are advised to avoid contact lenses for approximately two weeks and make up for about 10 days.

Any resulting hairline scars from eyelid rejuvenation will follow the natural curve of the eyelids and typically fade in about two months.

Getting Ready for your Eyelid Surgery Procedure or Eyelid Lift

During the consultation process, Doctor Scaccia explains the procedure and determines the patient’s expectations. The patient’s condition and expectations are taken into consideration to present the most probable outcome. The physician offers before and after photos of patients with similar conditions that he has operated on in order to show actual results.
